Scaffolding across Hampshire: what we do here
Hampshire is a natural extension of our patch. The yard at Eastergate sits just the other side of the county boundary from Emsworth and Havant, so the A27 corridor through Havant, Cosham, Portsmouth and Fareham is regular working territory rather than an occasional trip.
The mix of work here is broader than in most of our area. Along the harbour edge and through the city we scaffold terraced housing, flats and commercial frontages. Inland towards Waterlooville, Denmead, Horndean and Petersfield it is extensions, re-roofs, chimney work and barn or farm buildings. Around the docks and the industrial estates it is contractor and industrial access with a programme attached.
That variety is why we survey every Hampshire job before pricing. A three-storey terrace behind a narrow Portsea lane, a chalk-founded cottage on the edge of the Downs, and a steel-portal unit on a trading estate are three different scaffolds with three different tie strategies and three different ways of getting materials in.
For contractors, we work to your sequence. Erection, adaptations between trades and dismantle dates are agreed at the start, RAMS and method statements are issued on request, and the handover paperwork is there when your site manager asks for it.

Hampshire property we work on
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Dense terraced streets across Portsmouth, Southsea and Havant with pavement frontages, rear alleys and party-wall chimney stacks that need careful tie planning and edge protection.
Post-war and estate housing
Waterlooville, Leigh Park, Paulsgrove and the surrounding estates, where re-roofs, rendering, soffit and fascia replacement and solar installs make up most of the domestic work.
Rural and downland property
Cottages, converted barns and farm buildings towards Petersfield, Denmead and the Meon valley, often on soft or sloping ground with long, low elevations.
Commercial, dockside and industrial
Trading estates, retail units, warehouses and plant where the access has to be planned around vehicle movements, shift patterns and public footfall.
What Hampshire customers usually need scaffolding for

- Rendering and external wall insulation access

Why us
Why Hampshire clients use Square Scaffolding
Hampshire clients get the same owner-led service as our West Sussex customers: Billy quotes the job, Billy's team builds it, and the number you call is the number that answers. For contractors that matters more than the price, because it means adaptations get agreed in one phone call instead of three.
Behind that sit the credentials that a site manager will ask for: in-date CISRS cards on every operative, a Gold Scaffolding Supervisor card, Scaffolding Association membership, a Checkatrade listing and £10,000,000 of public liability cover.
Close to south Hampshire
The Eastergate yard is a short A27 run from Emsworth, Havant and Portsmouth, so mid-hire adaptations are practical.
Domestic and industrial capability
The same firm handles a chimney scaffold in Havant and industrial access on a trading estate — no need for two contractors.
Paperwork that stands up
RAMS, method statements and handover packs issued on request, with insurance certificates available.
24 years of experience
Billy has been scaffolding since 2002 and has seen how Hampshire's terraces, downland cottages and industrial units behave.
Free, honest pricing
A site visit costs nothing and the price is written down before we book a date.
Scaffolding challenges specific to Hampshire
Coastal and harbour exposure
Portsmouth, Langstone and Chichester Harbour sit fully open to the Solent, and the wind funnels along the harbour edges. Sheeted scaffolds on exposed elevations here need a tie pattern designed for the wind load, not a standard domestic pattern.
Salt-laden air is also the reason for so much of the repair work: it eats mortar joints, corrodes fixings and lifts render, particularly on properties within a mile or two of the water.
- Wind-load-aware tie patterns for sheeted elevations
- Weather-rated temporary roofs for winter roof works
- Regular inspection through the hire period
Dense terraced streets and restricted access
Large parts of Portsmouth, Southsea and Havant are terraced streets with no side access, on-street parking on both sides and pavements directly under the frontage. Materials often have to be carried through the house or round a shared rear alley.
We work that out on the site visit — where the wagon can stand, how the tube gets in, whether a pavement gantry or a licence is needed — so the build day does not turn into a dispute with neighbours.
Chalk, clay and sloping ground
Inland Hampshire moves from harbour-edge silt to chalk downland and clay. Sloping gardens and stepped ground are common around Petersfield, Denmead and the Meon valley, which means base lifts have to be stepped and founded properly.
Sole boards, adjustable bases and, where needed, a designed foundation keep the structure level and stable on ground that would otherwise settle under load.
Live commercial and industrial premises
Much of the commercial work in Hampshire happens while the business keeps running — shops trading, warehouses loading, production lines going. Scaffolding that ignores that causes more disruption than the works themselves.
We plan around vehicle routes, fire escapes, shutter doors and public footfall, and phase the build so the operation keeps moving. Where a permit-to-work system applies, we work inside it.

- 01
You call or send the details

We come out, walk the elevations, check the ground and the access route, and work out where the ties go.
- 03
Written quote
A written price based on the building we have actually seen, with the hire period stated. No charge, no obligation.
- 04
Erection on the agreed date
Our own CISRS-carded team builds it on the day agreed, tidy, tied in and handed over ready to use.
- 05
Adaptations and dismantle
Changes during the hire are one phone call. When your last trade is off it, we strike it and clear the site.
Scaffolding in Hampshire: frequently asked questions
Do you serve Hampshire?
Yes. Our yard at Eastergate, PO20 3SJ, is just over the West Sussex boundary, so south Hampshire — Emsworth, Havant, Portsmouth, Waterlooville, Fareham — and the towns inland are regular working areas for us.
How fast can you reach a job in Hampshire?
South Hampshire is a short run along the A27, so site visits are usually arranged within a few days. Emergency and make-safe work is prioritised — call 07738 062043 rather than emailing.
What does scaffolding cost in Hampshire?
Cost depends on height, number of lifts, elevation length, ground conditions and hire duration. The site visit and written quote are free, so you get a real figure for your building instead of a phone estimate.
Do you offer emergency scaffolding in Hampshire?
Yes — storm damage, unsafe stacks, structural movement and other make-safe work. Ring with the postcode and a description and we will tell you what we can do.
Can you supply RAMS for a Hampshire commercial site?
Yes. Risk assessments, method statements and handover packs are issued on request, which is standard on our commercial and industrial work.
Are your scaffolders qualified and insured?
Every operative holds an in-date CISRS card, Billy holds a Gold Scaffolding Supervisor card, we are Scaffolding Association members, and the company carries £10,000,000 public liability insurance.
How long can I keep the scaffold?
Six weeks is standard unless agreed otherwise. If the project runs longer, tell us and we will arrange an extension.
Do you do industrial scaffolding in Hampshire?
Yes. We provide access for plant, units and industrial buildings, planned around your operations, shift patterns and permit systems.
Can you work on terraced houses with no side access?
Regularly. Much of Portsmouth and Havant is exactly that. We establish on the site visit how materials get in and where the wagon can stand before we commit to a date.
Do you work for main contractors?
Yes. We plan erection, adaptation and dismantle dates against the build programme and keep one point of contact throughout.
